Cariri Paraibano

In the Brazilian Northeast, some regions have their own geographical, cultural and social peculiarities, which distinguish them from the surroundings and transform it into real “states within the State”. Cariri Paraibano is one of them. Comprising 42 municipalities, this region constitutes a large high plateau that sits on the Serra da Borborema. This rocky plateau extends for tens of kilometers from Northeast to Southwest, from the outskirts of Campina Grande to the border of Pernambuco.

The region of Cariri Paraibano was ‘started’ for tourism in 1995, and that its immense potential for nature tourism was immediately discovered, and we have been working since then to make it a reality. For a better understanding, the following are the distinguishing factors – or strengths – that make Cariri such a special region and, in fact, legitimately accredit it to claim for itself the title of “the newest ecotourism and tourism adventure of Brazil “

GEOLOGICAL LANDSCAPE

The region of Cariri Paraibano is characterized by the beautiful rocky landscapes, located in the middle of the small forest, called caatinga shrub. Located in the Municipality of Cabaceiras, the impressive Lajedo de Pai Mateus, is the maximum expression of this type of landscape. It is a rocky rise of 1 kilometer, in the form of an inverted “giant soup dish”, on which are arranged about 100 immense rounded blocks of granite, forming one of the most unusual and beautiful landscapes of the planet. with similar geological and scenic features – Devil’s Marbles in Australia, Erongo Mountains in Namibia and the Hoggar region in Algeria – this is undoubtedly the most beautiful and pristine.

NICE WEATHER

The proximity to the coast and the average altitude of 450m gives the Cariri a special climate. The days are never overly warm and the nights are invariably cool, easily reaching 15 degrees Celsius in the winter.

MYSTIC ENERGY

Mystic energy: many places in the World are referred to as “energy poles”, “chakras of the universe“, “mystic recesses”, and other similar designations.

The Lajedo de Pai Mateus – once a sacred ceremonial center for the prehistoric indigenous people who inhabited the region at least 10,000 years ago – is one such site. Their “positive energy” does not go unnoticed by visitors with some sensitivity or “open” to this type of experience. Many are the reports of visitors who felt “reenergized” by the contemplation of a magnificent sunset in Lajedo de Pai Mateus.

HOSPITALITY

The inhabitants of Cariri descended from the Tapuia Indians who inhabited this region. In Tapuia culture, hospitality was taken very seriously. When you visit Cariri, this differential is always noticed. The permanent smile on people’s faces and the open, friendly way in which they relate to outsiders evoke concepts long forgotten by our “modern society.”
