Fernando de Noronha: General knowledge

IT’S GOOD TO KNOW ABOUT NORONHA

– The time zone is 1 hour ahead of Brasilia time (except during summer time);

– Energy is generated through diesel engines and wind generator. Voltage of 220 Volts;

– There are no springs, all the water consumed on the island comes from rains and a water cooler;

– There is a public hospital that meets basic needs;

– All supplies of the island are made by cargo ships coming from Natal or Recife;

– Two small supermarkets supply the population;

– Every evening they have lectures on environmental themes, at the headquarters of the TAMAR / IBAMA – Boldró Project;

– There is no large pharmacy structure on the island, so it is advisable to take medicines from the continent that are being used;

– Bring mineral water on the tracks;

– Many are the options of beaches in the archipelago. More suitable for diving, others for bathing, contemplation, surfing etc. In general, all the beaches located on the protected side of the main island are ideal for diving and bathing during the periods between April and November due to the extremely calm sea. In the other months, changing sea conditions favor surfing, with emphasis on January and February.

What to do in Noronha ...

– Ecological tourism is the natural vocation of the Island. The beauties untouched, unforgettable and incomparable, causing the spirit of adventure to spread in the air.

– Dives activities: two types of dives can be practiced in Fernando de Noronha: autonomous diving, with cylinders and the free diving (apnea). Underwater fishing is completely prohibited.

– Boat Tours: several boats, with an average capacity of 20 passengers, make daily trips departing at 08:00 am from the Port of Santo Antônio, following to the secondary islands, Ponta da Sapata, passing through the Dolphin Bay with a stop at Baía do Sancho for baths and dives. Some boats include fish on board. The return usually takes place at 11:30 a.m.

– Buggy rides: although some beaches can be easily reached on foot, there is probably a need to rent a buggy for trips around the island. There are several rental companies that rent bugres to drive yourself. For short trips, you can use taxis. This service is provided by NORTAX, a cooperative of buggies.

– Hiking: many places in the Archipelago are no longer known due to their difficult access. Exotic beaches, squeezed between escarpments, caves, hills, etc. are excellent options for hiking. The best locations are within the Marine Park area so the company of a prosecutor is mandatory and required. Recently, several thematic tracks were inaugurated in the Government of Pernambuco project together with the PED / Ministry of the Environment and the new trails in the area of ​​the National Marine Park – PARNAMAR.

What is not done on the Island

In order for the National Marine Park of Fernando de Noronha PANAMAR – FN to fully achieve its objectives, it is necessary to collaborate with all people in relation to the preservation of the environment. Therefore, the following activities are not allowed in the park area:

– Underwater hunting and fishing, or transport of materials suitable for these activities;

– Introduce animals or plants on the island;

– Kill, capture, chase and feed animals;

– Change the vegetation and collect seeds, roots and fruits;

– Collection of shells, corals, stones, live animals or parts of organisms;

– Visit the areas of PANAMAR – FN from 18:00 to 08:00 hours;

– Swim, dive and stop the boats near the Bay of Dolphins;

– Abandon garbage or debris;

– Visit the islands or islets;

– Camping, overnight and fire;

– Visit the areas that are not of public use of the park without authorization;

– Stopping boats, except for the use of the sandbanks of the Sancho beach and poitas of the Southeast Bay;

– Write or mark stones, trees or plaques;

– Diving in the pool of the Bay of Pigs;

– Descend and immerse yourself in the pools of Rachel’s Hole and Ponta das Ceradas;

– Walk on the reefs of the beaches of Atalaia, Sueste and Leão;

– Enter the Mangue do Sueste;

– To surpass the limits of the buoys of the Southeast and the Bay of the Dolphins;

– Access to vessels and vehicles without a license;

– Use fins, sneakers, sunscreen and the like at Atalaia beach;

– To do autonomous diving, without it being through a company accredited by PANAMAR – FN;

– Diving with the dolphins inside the area of ​​PANAMAR – FN.
